Privacy policy

In accordance with the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Quebec, as amended by Law 25) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada).

1. Who we are

The akileine.ca website is operated by Laboratoire Larima ltée ("Larima", "we", "us"), the exclusive Canadian distributor of Akileine products made by Laboratoires Asepta (Monaco).

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit akileine.ca or place an order, why we collect it, how we protect it and what your rights are.

2. Person in charge of the protection of personal information

You may contact him with any question, access or correction request, or complaint concerning your personal information.

3. Information we collect

When you place an order: your name, shipping and billing addresses, email address, phone number, the details of your purchases and, if you create an account, your password (encrypted). Your payment card details are entered directly with our payment provider (see section 6); we never have access to them and do not store them.

When you browse the site: your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view and how you arrived at the site. This data keeps the site running properly and, with your consent, is used to measure traffic (see section 5 on cookies).

When you subscribe to our emails: your email address, your first name and, where applicable, your preferred language.

When you write to us: the information you include in your message, so that we can reply.

We do not collect any information about your health. The advice published in the "Advice from the Foot Expert" section is general in nature and does not replace the opinion of a health professional.

4. Why we collect it

We use your personal information only for the following purposes:

  • to process, ship and track your orders, and keep you informed;
  • to handle returns, refunds and customer service;
  • to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations;
  • to keep the site secure and detect fraud;
  • with your consent, to send you our advice and news by email;
  • with your consent, to measure site traffic and improve how the site works.

We never sell or rent your personal information.

5. Cookies

The site uses cookies. On your first visit, a banner lets you choose which ones you accept.

  • Essential cookies: required for the site to work (cart, session, security, language preference). They are always active.
  • Non-essential cookies (traffic measurement, advertising, personalization): off by default. They are set only if you expressly accept them in the consent banner. You can change your choice at any time through the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.

6. Service providers and disclosure to third parties

We rely on service providers that have access only to the information they need for their task and that are contractually bound to protect it:

  • Shopify Inc. (e-commerce platform, hosting of the site and its data, payment processing through Shopify Payments);
  • Carriers (Canada Post and, for the United States, DHL Express) to deliver your orders;
  • Payment providers (Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay or Google Pay, depending on your choice), which process your card data in compliance with the PCI-DSS standard;
  • Email service (Shopify Email) for our communications, if you have consented to them.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, for example at the request of a competent authority.

7. Hosting and communication outside Quebec

Our store is hosted on the Shopify platform, whose servers are located outside Quebec (in Canada and the United States). Some of our service providers may also process data outside Quebec. As required by Law 25, we carried out a privacy impact assessment before communicating information outside Quebec and made sure that this information receives adequate protection, notably through contractual commitments.

8. Retention period

We keep your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected:

  • Orders and invoices: seven (7) years after the transaction, in accordance with tax and accounting obligations;
  • Customer account: as long as your account is active; you can ask us to close it at any time;
  • Email subscription: until you unsubscribe;
  • Browsing data: for the lifetime of each cookie, as shown in the consent banner;
  • Customer service messages: two (2) years after the last exchange.

Once these periods have elapsed, the information is securely destroyed or anonymized.

9. Security

We apply reasonable physical, technological and administrative security measures, proportionate to the sensitivity of the information: encrypted communications (SSL/TLS), access limited to those who need it, encrypted passwords and platform monitoring. No transmission over the Internet is completely secure, however; we encourage you to choose a unique password and never share it.

10. Confidentiality incidents

If a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury were to affect your information, we would notify the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec and the persons concerned, as the law requires, and take reasonable measures to limit the consequences. We keep a register of confidentiality incidents.

11. Your rights

At any time and free of charge, you may:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • have corrected any information that is inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous;
  • withdraw your consent to the use of your information for marketing purposes (every email contains an unsubscribe link);
  • ask us to stop disseminating your information, or to delete it, subject to our legal retention obligations;
  • obtain a copy of your information in a structured, commonly used technological format (portability);
  • file a complaint with our person in charge of the protection of personal information.

To exercise these rights, write to info@akileine.ca. We will reply within thirty (30) days of receiving your request, after verifying your identity. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you may contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca).

12. Minors

The site is intended for persons who have reached the age of majority. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14 without the consent of the person having parental authority.

13. Changes

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. The current version, with its update date, is always available on akileine.ca. In the event of a significant change, we will let you know through a notice on the site or by email.
